The Giving China 2025 Report was officially released on 29 January 2026 at Tsinghua University during the Giving China Forum. The event was co-hosted by the Institute for Philanthropy at Tsinghua University and Yishan Cloud, bringing together donors, philanthropic organisations, scholars, and media representatives to discuss key trends shaping China’s giving landscape. It also featured three roundtable discussions on long-term philanthropic practice, the strategic evolution of corporate foundations, and the global engagement of Chinese philanthropy, highlighting the growing importance of collaboration, data transparency, and ecosystem building.
According to the report, China’s philanthropic organisations received a total of RMB 132.4 billion in charitable donations in 2024, representing a 12.3% year-on-year decrease. Corporate giving remained the dominant source at RMB 98.3 billion (74.2%), while individual donations totalled RMB 32.2 billion (24.3%). By sector, healthcare, education, and social services continued to attract the largest share of donations, while the environmental sector recorded notable growth. Foundations remained the primary recipients of donations, though their share declined, while donations to the charity federation system increased year on year. International cash donations to China reached RMB 2.6 billion, with university foundations remaining the main recipients.
The Giving China 2025 Report continues the series’ commitment to independent, professional, and longitudinal data analysis, providing a reliable evidence base for donor decision-making, nonprofit governance, policy research, and sector development. The report is supported by nine foundations, including the Gates Foundation, Jack Ma Foundation, the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, and Li Foundation, reflecting broad sector engagement in strengthening China’s philanthropy data infrastructure.
Li Foundation is proud to be a co-sponsor of the report, supporting the development of robust data and actionable insights to advance China’s philanthropic sector. For more information on the Giving China 2025 Report, please visit the official website: www.givingchina.org.
