The 777 Island-Hopping Marathon in Taiwan, a demonstration of human endurance and the sheer will to conquer, concluded on June 18th, 2023. This grueling seven-days long challenge began on June 11th with 55 resilient runners who undertook the demanding task of completing a 42.195km run on each of the seven islands in Taiwan: Lanyu, Green Island, Dapeng Bay, Xiaoliuqiu, Kinmen Island, Penghu, and Matsu.
The eighth day witnessed an ebullient celebration, applauding not only the participants’ unyielding tenacity but also the consistent support from devoted volunteers and generous sponsors. The event’s organizer, Mr. Shao Chingi, narrated the inception of the marathon, which sprang from a conversation with Lionel, who had participated in the ‘World Marathon Challenge’ in 2018 – 7 marathons across 7 continents in 7 days.
Lionel is the originator of the 777 Island-Hopping Marathon, participated in its third edition after pandemic restrictions were eased. His appreciation for the meticulous planning and considerate arrangements of the organizers was profound. He shared his wish that through this distinctive race, more people get to appreciate the beautiful scenery of Taiwan, its warm culture, the noble spirit of volunteerism, and the allure of sports.
Reflecting his commitment, Lionel announced at the celebration that Singapore-based Li Foundation (LIF) will contribute 5 million NTD to the ‘National Association of Trail Runners’ over the next five years. The pledge supports the continuation of similar endeavors, embracing the conviction that “Sports shape lives and life inspires lives.”
The event was also immortalized through a documentary film that paints the picture of ordinary individuals achieving extraordinary feats against the stunning backdrops of Taiwan. This depiction resonates with the spirit of endurance that LIF strives to inspire and promote. LIF remains committed to its mission of transforming lives through the power of sport.
The book showcases how the participants challenged their limits and conquered the World Marathon Challenge and North Pole Marathon to inspire people to challenge their own limits and pursue their dreams boldly.
