On April 3rd, 2025, Li Foundation participated in the Donors’ Meeting of the China Early Childhood Development (ECD) Collaborative Project – an ambitious and unprecedented collaborative involving five other regional and global funders like Gates Foundation, Hong Kong Jockey Club, Enlight Foundation, Tanoto Foundation, and Yeh Family Philanthropy. To create inclusive, high-quality ECD services for under-resourced children aged 0–3 countrywide, the project will catalyse direct and systemic change through a combination of local project innovations, policy advocacy, and public education for caregivers.
The meeting also convened backbone partners like the China Development Research Foundation (CDRF) and China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) alongside ECD experts to reflect on the milestones achieved and inform strategic decisions for the upcoming phase. From forming a governance framework and appointing members to the expert advisory committee, to launching pilot programmes and promoting ECD policy change, the progress has been steadfast and encouraging.
During the discussion, a highlight was the development of a Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE) framework in collaboration with academic and field partners. This element ensures that insights from the field are continuously integrated into the project’s design and implementation, building the foundation for long-term learning and growth. Donors also gave feedback on the public education strategy and provided suggestions on where to best focus the education efforts.
More than just a progress update, the meeting served as an affirmation of core values: care, collaboration, and innovation. It was a moment to align on shared goals, strengthen mutual trust, and chart the next steps toward an ecosystem where every child has the opportunity to thrive. As the journey continues, Li Foundation remains committed to walking alongside its partners to build a better future for children in China — one child, one community, and one breakthrough at a time.
