Recently, the Li Foundation and A.D.A. Production teams had an engaging and insightful exchange with representatives from the Tencent Foundation on the future of digital philanthropy and how technology can be harnessed as a force for good. The conversation was wide-ranging, spanning fields such as early childhood development, community engagement, corporate philanthropy, and more.
Established in 2007 as one of China’s first philanthropic foundations initiated by an internet company, Tencent Foundation has played a pioneering role in leveraging digital technology to strengthen charitable giving and social innovation. Through initiatives such as the Tencent Sustainable Social Value (SSV) Platform and the annual 99 Giving Day campaign, the Foundation has helped cultivate one of the world’s largest digital philanthropy ecosystems, connecting millions of users, nonprofit organisations, and corporate partners in China through technology-enabled giving. Beyond fundraising, its work increasingly focuses on community development, digital public infrastructure, and technology-driven solutions to tackle complex social challenges.
A potential area of collaboration discussed was the China ECD Collaborative Initiative that Li Foundation is supporting. Bringing together seven major philanthropic partners, including the Gates Foundation and Tanoto Foundation, it seeks to improve outcomes for children aged 0 to 3 years in China through direct and systems-level interventions. Tencent Foundation shared its exploration of AI-powered parenting assistants and digital tools to support caregivers, while both organisations discussed how technology and philanthropy can work together to strengthen service delivery and bridge the last-mile gap between policies and impact delivered to families on the ground.
The exchange also touched on Relay Majulah, a charity initiative and long-term movement that embodies Singapore’s enduring spirit of unity, resilience, and giving. The Li Foundation shared highlights from Relay SG60,, which brought together participants from across the people, public, and private sectors to celebrate Singapore’s 60th year of independence while raising funds for the Community Chest. Tencent was a key supporter of the initiative, contributing as a major donor and fielding one of the event’s largest participating teams. Dr. Xiao Li Ming, Vice President of Tencent Sustainable Social Value, also attended the “Relay SG60: Your Story. In Print.” book launch event at Marina Bay Sands in May. The conversation provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on how sport, community engagement, and collective action can strengthen social cohesion and inspire broader participation in giving.
Li Foundation is greatly honoured and encouraged to find a like-minded partner in Tencent in exploring collaborative philanthropy and leveraging AI-enabled social innovation to improve the well-being of children and communities. By bringing together philanthropy, technology, and ecosystem collaboration, both organisations expressed optimism about developing scalable solutions that can strengthen communities and create lasting social impact across Asia.
The book showcases how the participants challenged their limits and conquered the World Marathon Challenge and North Pole Marathon to inspire people to challenge their own limits and pursue their dreams boldly.
The book tells the stories behind the event which saw the largest number of people in history running 1045km round Taiwan in 19 days.
