Firetree Philanthropy is a non-profit organisation committed to developing systemic solutions to address the root causes of pressing social issues in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Through an intentional and collaborative approach, Firetree aims to foster more just, inclusive, and equitable communities by partnering with local organisations that implement transformative programs. In addition to its grantmaking, Firetree has also incubated several collaborative initiatives by offering financial support and thought partnership, such as the Tondo Community Initiative, a child protection organisation in the Philippines.
Li Foundation recently welcomed Francesco from Firetree Philanthropy for a meaningful exchange on each organisation’s philanthropic philosophy and guiding principles. Francesco shared insights into Firetree’s distinctive giving approach, which centres on bold risk-taking, deep partnerships with grassroots implementers, and a commitment to systems-level change. He emphasised the importance of building long-term relationships with local organisations and supporting their growth while honouring their expertise and the unique contexts in which they operate. Firetree’s support goes beyond funding to encompass strategic guidance, mentoring, and facilitating peer learning through annual convenings. These efforts not only strengthen individual organisations but also build an ecosystem of change-makers by promoting collective learning and innovation, similar to Li Foundation’s goals and those of our flagship project, the Inspiring Asia Micro Film Festival.
The conversation underscored a strong alignment between our two organisations, particularly in our shared values of collaboration, community-rooted action, and long-term impact. We are excited about the potential to learn more from one another and explore opportunities to co-create initiatives that drive sustainable, inclusive change across the region.
