Empowering Communities Through Sport: SportCares – Li Foundation Triathlon 2024

More than just a race, the SportCares – Li Foundation Triathlon & Annual Duathlon 2024 embodied resilience, growth, and the unifying power of sports. This year’s event marked an exciting transition from a Duathlon to a Triathlon, reflecting the spirit of embracing challenges and pushing beyond limits.

As part of the SportCares – Li Foundation MultiSport Programme (SLFMSP), this triathlon reinforces sports as a platform for social inclusion and community empowerment. With a $500,000 donation from Li Foundation and its Chairman, Lionel Li, this program continues to be a cornerstone of SportCares’ vision of expanding sports opportunities for underserved communities. Beyond the financial support , Lionel Li, Leo Li, and Candy Goh from Li Foundation actively participated in the triathlon’s running, cycling, and swimming segments, demonstrating the Foundation’s commitment to engaged philanthropy and leading by example.

As part of their commitment to expanding sports access, Lionel and Leo presented a $500,000 cheque to the Vision 2030 Fund, further strengthening SportCares’ mission to empower communities through sport. This contribution will enable more youth to engage in structured training programs, fostering resilience and confidence through athletics.

This year’s event brought together a diverse community of athletes, coaches, and volunteers, including students and staff from PPIS, Seven Oaks Student Care Centres, MIJ Hub, and NorthLight School, alongside dedicated youth instructors and national sports associations such as Triathlon Association Singapore, Singapore Aquatics, and Singapore Cycling Federation. Their collective efforts created a supportive and empowering environment, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to thrive.

The SportCares aspiring athletes trained hard and gave their best on race day, demonstrating determination, perseverance, and the transformative power of sport. To honor participants’ dedication, Lionel personally awarded medals, celebrating their perseverance, sportsmanship, and growth.
