Deepening Partnerships in China: Fondation CHANEL and Ginkgo Foundation

Li Foundation recently had an engaging conversation with Isabella, Asia Programs Manager at Fondation CHANEL, along with Boju and Jingxiao from Ginkgo Foundation—representatives of two inspiring nonprofit organizations that are deepening their efforts to create lasting impact in China.

Founded in 2011, Fondation CHANEL is dedicated to advancing the economic and social empowerment of women and adolescent girls around the world. Since its inception, it has steadily expanded its footprint in Asia, supporting more than 60 partner organizations across 14 markets and regions. Their approach involves supporting direct service delivery or systems-level change, depending on the local context. In China, their work increasingly focuses on the intersection of climate change and gender inequality, spotlighting the disproportionate effects environmental challenges have on women and girls.

Established in 2015, the Ginkgo Foundation is committed to cultivating a vibrant community of social entrepreneurs in China. At the heart of their mission is the Ginkgo Fellows Program, which identifies and supports young leaders spearheading NGOs, grassroots initiatives, and social enterprises. Through funding, mentorship, and global exchanges, the program equips fellows with the tools and networks they need to drive meaningful change. One such exchange—the Philanthropic Youth Leadership Program in Singapore, co-hosted with Li Foundation—provides a platform for fellows to gain global perspectives and share innovative solutions.

In our exchange, the three organizations engaged in a thoughtful dialogue around philanthropic values, strategies, and their respective projects in China’s social sector. The conversations were rich with insight, reaffirming the importance of partnership, cross-cultural understanding, and long-term commitment in shaping effective giving.

Li Foundation is proud to serve as a connector in this ecosystem of changemakers. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from Fondation CHANEL and Ginkgo Foundation, and we look forward to building more bridges across China and Asia to foster a culture of collaborative philanthropy.
