Recently, the Li Foundation team met with Ms. Yvette Yeh and Mr. Eric Chung from Yeh Family Philanthropy and Nan from Asia Philanthropy Circle for an engaging discussion on early childhood development and social innovation.
Established in 2012 by Dr. Geoffrey Yeh, the Yeh Family Philanthropy (YFP) is a Hong Kong-based family foundation with a hands-on, strategic approach to education funding and a mission to improve educational outcomes for youths at scale. They do so by supporting socio-emotional learning programs in schools and the community in Hong Kong, as well as promoting early childhood development (ECD) in China through quality services and programs to empower caregivers.
During the meeting, both teams affirmed the progress of the China ECD collaborative, an initiative aimed at improving ECD outcomes for children in rural and urban settings through policy advocacy, public education, and piloting parenting centres to deliver services. Both organisations are part of six funders behind the collaborative, and were especially pleased with developments on the policy front, such as the allocation of funds from the central government’s budget to support the development of preschool education.
We also discussed Inspiring Asia, Li Foundation’s flagship micro film festival, which has grown into a pan-Asian platform to spread social innovation, with regional festivals held in China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Singapore. With over 860 entries this year from more than 50 countries, Li Foundation looks forward to the support of more regional partners to expand the festival’s reach and impact.
